STATS
OVERVIEW
▼
The site uses a loose stat system. We don't plan on forcing members to whip out a calculator or start doing dice rolls at any time in order to figure out whether or not an attack hits, or how much health they have, or how much damage they do, but stats are useful to use a guideline for how strong your character should be while you're writing them.
To start, there are six stats: Health, Mana, Strength, Defense, Speed, and Magic. Here's a breakdown of what those stats mean:
- Health: How much health a character has. Literally how much damage they can end up taking.
- Mana: How much magic a character has. How many spells they could cast at once.
- Strength: How strong a character is. How much damage a physical attack does.
- Defense: How easily a character can shrug off an attack. This differs from health in that-- health would be falling, breaking a leg, and still being okay. Defense would be falling and not breaking a leg.
- Speed: How fast a character is, and how agile they are. How good they are at dodging and how acrobatic they are.
- Magic: How strong their magic is. This differs from Mana; the former is how many spells they could cast, but this is how powerful each spell would be.
Each stat has up to five possible levels, shown like below:
- Health: ☆☆☆☆☆
- Mana: ☆☆☆☆☆
- Strength: ☆☆☆☆☆
- Defense: ☆☆☆☆☆
- Speed: ☆☆☆☆☆
- Magic: ☆☆☆☆☆
When first creating a character, you are allowed to fill up to ten of those stars. However, no category may be left blank, and no category may have more than three filled in. An example is below:
- Health: ★★★☆☆
- Mana: ★☆☆☆☆
- Strength: ★★☆☆☆
- Defense: ★★☆☆☆
- Speed: ★☆☆☆☆
- Magic: ★☆☆☆☆
Don't worry, there are ways to increase a character's stats! The easiest way is to join a Union, which you can do from the very start. Each union offers a bonus. A glance at this sample stat makes it pretty clear that this character is already a good fit for the Solaris Union, so we're going to put them there, so now we can fill in a bonus star in both Health and Defense:
- Health: ★★★★☆
- Mana: ★☆☆☆☆
- Strength: ★★☆☆☆
- Defense: ★★★☆☆
- Speed: ★☆☆☆☆
- Magic: ★☆☆☆☆
If you app a Mentor or a Villain, you'll be granted the same opportunity to have bonus stars, though the bonus stars are more flexible and will be based upon the character's strength.
How can you further increase stats? Every time you rank up, you can fill in another star. At this point the stars you fill in are entirely up to you, though it's important to remember the roll of your Union. Focusing on speed and magic and ignoring increasing Defense and Health any further if you're in Solaris might seem like a fun way to 'fight the system', but it may be something you regret in the future.
There are ten ranks, giving you ten chances to fill in additional stars.
Once you hit the rank of Master, roughly five ranks in, you will be given one chance to upgrade one stat beyond five spots. This stat must already be full and must be one of the two stats given a bonus at the start. It would look something like this:
- Health: ★★★★★✭
- Mana: ★☆☆☆☆
- Strength: ★★★☆☆
- Defense: ★★★★☆
- Speed: ★★☆☆☆
- Magic: ★☆☆☆☆
The only time that this bonus may be used later is if your character was a civilian who, through character progression, joined a Union later in time.
