"I've thought of a wonderful present for you..." @poppy
Sephiroth had gotten about half of his fruit eaten by the time Poppy finished hers. She seemed to like it, though it was probably not what she was used to. True, he had the luxury of being used to eating like this, but Poppy had to learn quickly that comfort was a weakness. If you are comfortable, you are complacent. If you are complacent, you go soft... and if you are soft, you can be easily defeated in battle. It was simple truth. Obvious if one thought about it long and deeply enough.
The more he spoke to Poppy, the more it was obvious to him that she had much to learn. Speaking of, she asked the silver-haired man if this officially made her his student now. Sephiroth chuckled slightly, finishing off his fruit before crossing his arms. "Hm. I suppose it does. Though you might wish I left you here by the time we really get started training. It will be an arduous process. You will face struggles the likes of which you haven't even imagined before... but at the end of it, you will find it was all worthwhile."
Then she asked if he had ever taught anyone before. While he never really had someone who trained under him formally, he had acted in a mentor role for others a long time ago. He was a figure that his colleagues looked up to, so it was rather natural. "Not formally, no. I have mentored many warriors in the past, but none have officially trained under me before. You would be the first in that regard."

"Okay." She didn't sound disappointed - actually, her tone was quite positive. As though she was pleased to serve as his first 'official' student. But, his promise that she would look upon this agreement with no small amount of regret caused her to frown a little. Poppy was notoriously stubborn, her ambition having veered her toward making the decision of accepting Sephiroth as a mentor. "I've got a single requirement of my own," Poppy said. Her tone was altogether firm as their gazes clashed. "Each month I need, at the very least, several days of reprieve." Poppy gestured toward him. "That means acquiring a room someplace and staying there." Her reasoning behind this request was fairly obvious, but she would allow for Sephiroth to either figure it out on his own or prod her with questions regarding it if he liked. "But that's it," she continued, shrugging. It made her imagine how much time she'd dedicate toward her learning. How many years would it require before she achieved a competency that could rival his own? Poppy couldn't help but wonder about the subject of his lessons; about the training she'd endure because of her own personal desire to become an efficient warrior. 'Is that what I want to be?' She thought. 'Yes, yes I think it'll work. It's a decent goal.' "And when will we officially start?" Admittedly, she had temporarily forgotten about the topic regarding his blade.

Sephiroth shrugged at Poppy's requirement. "So long as you honor our agreement. How you will acquire a room will be interesting to see." He held up three fingers for her to see. "Three days a month are yours. The rest are mine. I hope this is satisfactory." Whether it was or wasn't was of no concern to him. The questions would continue. The next one being when they would officially start. "No time like the present." The soldier moved to stand next to Poppy before holding a fist out, palm facing upwards.
If his student tried to speak to him, Sephiroth would pay her no mind. He was focused. Slowly, the soldier began to open his hand. At first, the area would grow unnaturally cold. Next, a single black point would begin to hover in the air about ten feet away from the two. A relatively strong breeze washed over them as the point of darkness began to expand as Sephiroth opened his hand. By the time it was completely open, the point had expanded into a dark portal a little taller than the silver-haired man.
"A corridor into the space between the realm of light and the realm of darkness." He spoke as though he was answering a question. It seemed that would be a logical question for Poppy to ask, so he preempted it. "It has no... "official" name that I am aware of, but many have taken to calling it "Betwixt and Between." It is as good a name as any." He looked over at Poppy. "With this skill, you can travel anywhere and everywhere in an instant. It is perhaps your most important ability. If you do not know it, you should learn." Sephiroth closed his fist again, the portal closing with it.
He dropped his arm to his side. "The Keyblade wielders and their unions have a similar ability, from what I understand. I have not encountered their ilk in that between-realm, however, so I assume it is different than ours." He paused, then looked back to where the portal was. "Well? Can you do it?"

She just barely managed to prevent herself from biting her lip. 'Shit.' "Y - yes." Anxiety riddled her tone, indicating that her response was either a lie or a poorly-constructed truth. She had taken note of his explanation, and had enviously eyed the well-built portal that had been crafted from an inky blackness. "Yes, I can." Unwilling to disappoint him so soon, she desperately sought to build something that, at the very least, resembled his own creation. Poppy released a shaky breath, holding out her hand as she compelled her darkness to manifest itself into a malleable shape. At first, it appeared to work well enough, appearing a meager several feet from the young woman. 'It's working,' she thought. Her eyes grew bright, a hopeful look present as she shot Sephiroth a little smile. Unfortunately, the point of darkness began to tremble and writhe, unable to take on a proper shape. Poppy's smile was immediately wiped from her face at that moment, her brows furrowing as she forced herself to concentrate. Her attempt at a portal continued to expand and dramatically swell in size. "Oh - oh, no. Not again." The young woman backpedaled, attempting to distance herself from her own malformed creation. It would eventually stop growing after a few short moments of tense silence, a familiar coolness seeping from its depths. "I - I think it's done. I mean - It's done. See?" Poppy shot the man yet another grin - the look slightly forced, now - before she moved to tentatively dip her hand into the portal. 'Something usually goes wrong by now,' she thought. 'Maybe I lucked out?' The portal would then release the strangest gurgling noise before expanding itself suddenly and forcibly tugging the girl into its opening with fervor. "Ooooo - "

"I've thought of a wonderful present for you..." @poppy
Sephiroth watched silently as his student attempted to replicate what he had done. Her tone indicated that she wasn't at all confident in here ability to do so. As she focused on crafting a portal of her own, a point of blackness appeared a few feet away from them. Sephiroth kept his eyes on the dark construct, speaking only when Poppy turned to flash him a smile. "Maintain focus. You aren't done yet." He didn't even look at her as he said this. He could tell that it was unstable, as evidenced by its sporadic and uncontrolled growth.
When Poppy tried to back up, Sephiroth would put a firm hand on her back to prevent her from doing so. "Do not run. Do not panic. Focus. It's your darkness. It answers to you and you alone. Bring it under control." Eventually, the portal seemed to calm, a familiar coolness brought back to the area. It wasn't perfect, but it would do for the time being. At least, it appeared that way. "Not bad. You just need some more practice."
No sooner had Sephiroth finished speaking when the portal began to expand uncontrollably, pulling Poppy into its depths. "Damn it...!" The man in black didn't want to lose his disciple so soon after gaining her, so he lunged into the portal after her. Where it would take them, he didn't know. But Sephiroth was never one to be afraid of the unknown.
OOC; Thread exit. Good thread! This is gonna be the beginning of some great plot, I can feel it.
