She was beginning to loathe the Union. They were a notoriously thorough lot, and had managed to prevent her from taking advantage of worlds deemed 'safe'. Her last venture had resulted in failure; her admittedly hastily constructed plot unraveled by individuals whom had sought only to disrupt her plans. It had resulted in the young woman fleeing to this particular planet so that she could lick her wounds in relative peace. "Ooo," she groaned. "That smarts." Poppy flexed her hand experimentally, having administered a potion directly onto the wound a few short moments ago. She had received a rather large cut during her prior misadventure, the damaged portion of flesh sluggishly weeping crimson even now. It was only just beginning to seal, the magically-imbued serum hurrying along the healing process at a decent rate. "That's better," she noted. The pain was beginning to fade, leaving behind only a faint aching as she took in her immediate surroundings. She was surrounded by a plethora of greenery, the night sky obscured by thick clumps of strangely-shaped foliage. It appeared as though she was mostly alone, tucked away within Neverland's tropical forest and left to contemplate her next move. The distant sound of a beach reached her ears, and she was half-tempted to venture toward it. But instead she sat alone in the dark, visibly weary as she peered skyward and released a little sigh. @ o p e n

"I've thought of a wonderful present for you..." @poppy
Sephiroth sat upon the highest branch of one of the surrounding trees, shrouded by the foliage and the shadows of the night.. He was watching a young woman below him, who had applied a potion to an injury she had received. The shadowy man had been trying to decipher the woman, first of all wondering where she got that cut. Was it an accident? A battle wound? If so, who-- or what-- was she fighting? Then, the most important question of all, had she seen Cloud? The warrior could feel the man's presence, but had no luck tracking him down. It seemed he would have to resort to tracking the old fashioned way. He just had to guess the reception he would receive. At any rate, she was not a threat. Safe to approach from the front, then. Sephiroth shifted his body weight, allowing himself to fall from the high branch. He held his arms out to the sides, gliding ever so gently downwards to the ground.
He landed in front of Poppy a few feet away from her, turning in dramatic fashion to face the recovering woman. He certainly knew how to make an entrance. He would give the woman a moment to process his sudden appearance, his azure gaze fixed directly on her. At last, after what seemed like an eternity, he spoke. "Good evening." His voice was like velvet, with no hint of hostility, malice, or even really any formality. His eyes looked downwards to her hand, where her injury was healing. "A sizable cut. Not something one could get by an accident. Run into trouble?" Sephiroth knew full well that a cut like that could very well be the product of an accident. This was more of a gamble on his part. The cut didn't look self-inflicted, nor did it appear to be the product of an animal or anything like that. Sephiroth had seen his share of battle injuries in his time. While he didn't know for sure, he suspected this was the case.
Sephiroth wasn't very interested in the "how," though. It was more the "who" he was interested in. Perhaps it was just his mind playing tricks on him, but he had to be sure that this stranger didn't encounter Cloud. If he could get that confirmation, his mind would be at ease. As the man in black awaited Poppy's response, his gaze shifted back up to her face, his own expression giving no hint as to what was going on in his head.
OOC; Sephiroth is here!

A sharp intake of breath betrayed the young woman's surprise, her gaze having shifted from the stars to the man whom now stood before her. The adolescent first took notice to his tall stature before taking in the sight of his impressively lengthy mane and strange combination of physical attributes. Her own silver eyes darted about, her more observant nature urging her to visually analyse the stranger. After a moment, something clicked within her mind, and she proceeded to stand and waver only slightly. Poppy's muscles were still quite sore, after all, but she would not allow for such a minor discomfort to hamper her movement. "Maaaay - be," she drawled. She then blinked owlishly, visibly entranced by the man. There was something strange about the individual before her, hinting toward the likelihood that he could be a danger of some kind. 'No, no he definitely is,' she thought. 'Can't help but wonder what that means for me.' "'mm Poppy," she said, gesturing to herself. Poppy brushed off a few clumps of dirt from her clothing, her hood in particular suffering from clinging leaves and stray twigs. She would pluck at these, her attention shifting from him to the crimson material as she spoke. "Heh, sorry mister. But - uh - you don't look like the most friendliest guy. And I kinda doubt you're from around here. What's yer name?" A title would help her put a name to this face, after all.

"I've thought of a wonderful present for you..." @poppy
Surprise. An expected reaction. Sephiroth was aware of his off-putting appearance. More often than not, it was a boon. It made it rather easy to extract information from most sources. Usually, people would give him what he wanted just to get the man in black out of their sight. He took note of the girl's name, giving his own in return when asked for it. "Sephiroth." While one might expect a 'nice to meet you' attached to that, Sephiroth was still attempting to gather information. The way he saw it, he had all the cards. The soldier wasn't going to show all of them yet. He still had a bit of song and dance left to perform.
A small smile creeped onto his lips. "It is advisable to be cautious. The world is a dangerous place. full of people who would do you harm. Luckily for you, i'm not one of those people." What Sephiroth purposefully failed to mention was that this fact was subject to change depending on how their interaction went. So far, he had no desire to attack this girl. But again, this was subject to change. "You are correct, though. I'm not from around here. It seems to me, however, that the same could be said for you as well." The man in black crossed his arms and continued to examine Poppy with his otherworldly blue eyes.
"Everyone here is too... flamboyant for my taste." Sephiroth visibly grimaced. This place was like something out of a children's story. The environment, the colorful cast of characters, the wildlife... it was off-putting. Even the "bad guys" couldn't be taken seriously. Poppy was the first person he came across that didn't look like something a book of fairly tails puked out. At last, Sephiroth got to the point. "i'm looking for somebody. Someone else who isn't from here. He's a tall man dressed in black with blond hair. Carries a big sword. Have you seen him?"

'So he's looking for someone?' Poppy pursed her lips, a look of concentration settling upon her rounded facial features. She searched her recent memory before releasing a little sneer. "Nah," she responded. "Only folk whom I've had the pleasure of running into have been those Union types." Her luck had been, to put it bluntly, shit. And her pockets were suffering because of it. The organization primarily composed Keyblade wielders were swelling in number, offering security and snuffing out Heartless in abundance. This was a problem for someone such as herself for multiple reasons. The young woman fell silent for a moment, her neatly trimmed brows furrowed as she allowed for herself to sink into the depths of her thoughts. "Sorry I can't help ya with that," she said. "I'm assuming he's a friend of yours?" She finished her task of cleaning her hood, the piece of fabric falling limply from her callous fingers. "Those are hard to come by," she continued. "Especially for folk like us." Poppy took pause, suddenly realizing that she had made a rather bold assumption. For the oddest reasons she had assumed that this older man was in a similar situation. A fellow outcast whom was far too different to situate themselves comfortably within polite society. There was an aura about him that comforted her somewhat, but she couldn't decipher it - couldn't understand it. "I'm not... from around here," she admitted. " 'mm from Twilight Town - doubt they'll have me back, though." There was a petulant edge to her voice, a certain gleam entering her eye as she released a little snort.

"I've thought of a wonderful present for you..." @poppy
A Friend? Sephiroth internally scoffed at the idea at first. Upon further introspection, however, the soldier came to a different conclusion. His obsession with the former SOLDIER consumed his existence. Endless battle with Cloud had become his reason for being. That being the case, Cloud had become something of a friend. Was this legitimate kinship he felt, though? Or something else? Something else Poppy mentioned caught Sephiroth's ention. It was her mention of the Unions. Of course, being a man who gets around, the soldier couldn't help but notice the presence of these Unions.
They had been systematically eradicating the Heartless in every world they could. Sephiroth normally had no care for the petty squabbles of these people. He had a higher purpose. A greater purpose. But now these people stood in his way. For this reason, he had a disdain for these Unions. Things were better before they came along. Simpler. At the mention of friends being hard to come by, Sephiroth flipped his hair over his shoulder and to his back. "I have no use for friends. This man is... something else entirely to me."
An answer that was not entirely accurate, but one that would do for now. When the girl stated that he was from Twilight Town, Sephiroth took note of that. He hadn't been to Twilight Town and he would likely never go. The Unions had a strong presence there. It was unlikely he would be able to set foot there unchallenged. But the one-winged angel had no time to waste on inconsequential worlds. This girl-- Poppy-- something about her drew Sephiroth's interest. Maybe it was the darkness he smelled on her, or the way she seemed to be a little bundle of youth and anger.
For some reason, when he looked at her, he saw a lump of clay; a lump of raw potential. One that could be molded to suit his purposes. 'Now there's an interesting thought...' Sephiroth softened his expression as he spoke to Poppy again. "What did you do in Twilight Town that would cause the people to lead you to believe you no longer have a home there?" Sephiroth was slightly interested in her answer. He knew that he would learn much about the girl from her answer.

Curiosity entered the young girl's eyes as he offered up only a vague response followed by a question. It appeared as though this unknown someone was important to - "Sephiroth," she muttered. The title was spoken solely to herself as she sought to remember the older man's name. Her gaze had taken leave of his own, her head turning to the side as she took a moment to consider an appropriate response to his question. The sensation of disgust had reared its ugly head as she recounted her time spent in Twilight Town. "I was different," she confessed. She forced herself to speak despite the desire to veer the conversation's topic elsewhere. "I left on my own, really," she said, her hands forming into loose fists. "I stole - a lot. I wanted to become stronger for my own personal gain. I was interested in all the 'wrong' things - and I - I didn't conform to their standards." 'Well, now don't I sound like some sorta rebellious little shit.' Poppy couldn't help a small smile from forming as she responded to her inner-commentary. "Its - ugh - it's complicated." She deflated, the smallest of pouts twisting at her slightly chapped lips. The young woman was tired and hungry and desperately craved a bath, but she remained idle and willing to prolong this conversation. It was somewhat nice not to be alone, even if it was a for a short while. "And I'm not the most eloquent speaker, ya know?" The child shrugged. "How about you? What kinda stuff have you done?"

"I've thought of a wonderful present for you..." @poppy
Sephiroth listened to Poppy as she recounted her days in her hometown. She sounded like one of the rebellious types. He saw plenty of them back home, though it seemed like ages since he had last been there. At the mention Poppy stole a lot, Sephiroth grimaced. 'Hm. A thief then.' Sephiroth was a lot of things. People called him a murderer, a villain, a monster... these things might very well be true, but a thief was one thing he wasn't. Still, she mentioned how she didn't want to conform to their way of living. That was something the man in black could relate to.
He too was something of a conformist before his eyes were opened and his purpose made clear. "You shouldn't worry about conforming to any society's standards. It sounds to me like you are better off without them." He looked up at the night sky, a small smirk finding its way onto his face. "Life is rarely not complicated, child. You might not see it yet, but we have a great deal in common." Then she asked about him and the kinds of things he did. He could tell her everything. Spill the beans entirely about the friends he betrayed, the people he killed, one or another of his evil plans... but he wouldn't.
He would give her something, though. He couldn't expect her to tell him everything without giving her a bit of information himself. It might even help build a little bit of trust as well. He shrugged in response to her question. "I have done much in my life. I used to be a soldier, taking orders and killing people who had not so much as raised a hand against me. Sabotage, frontline assault... assassination. These are just a few of the kinds of orders I was given..." He looked back at Poppy with an amused smile. "...and they called me a hero. Only after I began to work for myself did they turn against me and call me a monster."

"That's the problem, isn't it?" She paused briefly, a look of concentration once again furrowing her brow and causing her silver eyes to gleam. "Folk like us want the 'wrong' thing," she said. Poppy released a disgruntled huff, and proceeded to pace in a tight pattern. Inwardly she felt only frustration at her own exile; at the decisions that had brought her here - 'Alone with barely a friend or ally to call upon.' - yet she could not bring herself to regret them nor did she truly mind that strange pulsating presence that had welled up within her since she was naught more than a child. Unbeknownst to the adolescent, her heart was presently clouded by a smog of darkness. It formed a thin film over it, its presence urging her down a certain path. It squirmed, causing a strange chill to course throughout her form. 'He mentioned we have something in common,' she realized, having taken a moment to absorb his earlier words. 'How, exactly? He's - well - stronger than me. I can tell.' Despite her arrogance, when it came to raw power she had forced herself to acknowledge that she was still terribly lackluster and sloppy when it came to the art of combat. This awareness had prevented her from taking on forces far greater than herself and it had helped her survive for this long on her own. "I haven't - uh - killed anyone before? Well, I mean I've killed Heartless and stuff, but never someone who can actually talk back." The question was awkwardly presented, the girl finally halting in her pacing to face the man. She appeared interested in the topic relating to his experience as a soldier. "What's it like?" Her eyes became round, revealing her desire to squeeze more information from Sephiroth.

"I've thought of a wonderful present for you..." @poppy
Sephiroth almost wanted to laugh when the girl asked him what it was like to kill someone. It seemed like such an odd question. Perhaps he had committed the act so many times that it lost its impact? Taking a life didn't really mean much to him anymore. It was rarely personal, anyway. The soldier tried to think back to the first time he killed someone. It was so long ago, he couldn't really remember any details like who it was, why they had to die, or even how he felt before or after the fact. He was one drop in an ocean. Or was it a she? Again, he couldn't remember the details. They weren't important to him anyway.
At last, he answered her question. "If you're asking what it was like the first time, I don't remember. That would be like asking a baker to describe the first cake he ever baked." A clumsy analogy, but it worked for now. "How it feels when you kill someone all depends on the reason. Ideally, you feel nothing. Life and death are seamless. You can cross over into one just as easily as the other." Sephiroth knew this better than almost anyone. "That being the case, forcing someone into one of those states isn't difficult or something that needs to be rationalized and justified." He crossed his arms. "Another thing as well, you will find as you get older that the world is rarely black and white."
The silver-haired man spoke in a serious tone. "Right and wrong are merely opinions. Everyone believes their moral code to be superior to everyone else's. Carve your own path. That is the way to true strength." Sephiroth paused briefly, then smiled slightly at the girl, ever more amused. "That advice is free." This girl was... interesting to say the least. The man in black wasn't sure why he was doling out advice to this girl. Maybe he found it a little too tempting to resist molding her. Would she be molded though? It appeared so, but they only just met. Sephiroth would not know for sure until there were concrete results.

"Thanks." She released an amused little snort, her intrigued look giving way to reveal a pleased expression. The young woman had listened attentively, intending to imprint his advice to memory. He was very well-spoken, and his sentences were carefully structured to reflect his intellect. "..." Poppy eyed him for a moment, struck with the realization that he had left her with a startling good first impression. He spoke to her in a respectful and blessedly dignified manner, leaving the adolescent with the impression that she was on equal-footing when it came to this particular conversation. The young woman couldn't help her grin from broadening out as she was left feeling strangely satisfied. "You've been on your own for a while, haven't you?" She ventured. The question was meant to further extend her moments spent here. This would serve as the first decent interaction she had in what felt like several months, after all. "Me too," she continued. "I actually just turned sixteen. But I left my home about a year ago." Her recently passed birthday had been spent counting out small piles of freshly stolen munny. She had acquired a room on that night and had filled the silence with numbers as she carefully counted her glimmering prizes. It was a good haul, and one she remembered fondly. "Are you going to be on your way, soon?" She, unfortunately, lacked the information he was in need of. And he had very little reason to remain here. "To find that blonde-haired man of yours? Your... enemy, I guess?"

"I've thought of a wonderful present for you..." @poppy
Sephiroth let out a chortle when poppy observed that he had been alone for quite some time. "Observant. You are correct. I feel... I have been alone for my entire life. Just because you have people around you doesn't mean you are not alone." He listened to the girl as she told him her age and how long it had been since she left her home. In the grand scheme of things, it wasn't that long. Just long enough to learn the skills you need to survive or just long enough to die. The fact that she was still here said something about her own ability.
Someone so young surviving out on their own like this... that said something as well. Poppy then asked if he was going to be heading out on his way soon to look for Cloud, his "enemy." The man in black nodded slightly. "Yes. I still have much ground to cover. This conversation has been... enlightening, however. I do not regret it." He turned to leave, pretending to hesitate for a moment before turning his head to look back at the girl. "Would you like to join me? You have much potential. There is a lot that I can teach you."
Sephiroth gave Poppy a half smile before turning back towards her and extending a hand in her direction. "Simply take my hand... and i'll show you what you are truly capable of." The darkness hanging over this teen's heart, once nurtured, would turn her into a powerful tool. While Sephiroth intended for ehr to serve his own ends, he knew that she must have goals of her own. If Poppy went for his hand, he would withdraw it briefly. "One thing first; you must be willing to do what is necessary to get stronger."
He smirked. "First of all, know that you needn't steal any longer. There are other ways to get what you need to survive." With that, he would extend his hand to her once more.

Genuine surprise served as Poppy's initial response, the adolescent's eyebrows raising and her lips parting slightly as her gaze flitted from his face to his offered hand. "I..." Disbelief took shape moments later, her head shaking lightly. "You can't be serious." She refused to allow her hope to soar and be dashed. But as she took note of his stance and the genuine look in the man's eyes - 'Oh.' "You're serious." Her expression gradually morphed to form a brilliant smile. It was an eager expression, the young woman's eyes revealing a hunger for power - to have her potential unlocked - to garner the strength she would need to survive. "Yes!" Poppy's reaction was positively giddy before she forced herself to calm, her look becoming bashful before she sought to emulate Sephiroth's cool demeanor. It was an, admittedly, poor facade, the corners of her lips constantly twitching upwards as she fought to keep a ridiculously large smile from her face. "I mean, I accept." After a moment of hesitance she reached for his hand - only to have it move just out of her reach. She shot him a questioning look before he proceeded to list a singular requirement. Poppy couldn't resist sending him a lopsided grin before she nodded, confirming her willingness to accept his tutelage. It was only his mention of her 'habits' that caused the look to dampen slightly. 'Well, that freakin' sucks,' she thought. "How else does someone like me make money, then?" She asked this while gripping his hand firmly and noting that his paw was much larger than her own. It was notably callous, his warrior status likely having resulted in hardened palms. "Can't get a normal job, ya know," she continued, arching a brow.

"I've thought of a wonderful present for you..." @poppy
There it was again. That eagerness to learn. She wanted strength, and he could offer it to her; for a price. Though that was how it went with everything. There was always a price for power. Sephiroth knew that all too well. While it wouldn't be clear just yet what that price would be, it would come collection time eventually. Once the two shook hands, Sephiroth smirked. "Very well, then. It's decided." Poppy still had more questions, however. Namely, how she could be expected to make money.
Spoken like a true city dweller, believing that money was a necessity. Sephiroth himself never really had much of a need for money. Especially lately. "People survived for years and years without currency. Without even bartering. The wilds can provide you with all the sustenance you could want." Sephiroth had been trained in survival, being a soldier. He never went hungry, as it was rather easy with someone of his skillset to hunt down food and water. It was even trivial.
To demonstrate, the soldier released Poppy's hand, looking up at the trees. "There. Perfect." He next gripped Masamune's handle. In what seemed like an instant, the man in black had drawn his five foot long sword and slashed upwards into the trees. Sephiroth sheathed his blade as two red, lumpy spheres the size of volleyballs fell from the trees. Without even looking, Sephiroth caught the two spheres in his hands and brought one to his mouth, taking a bite.
It was good. Slightly sweet, crunchy, and juicy. A good source of hydration and nourishment. Without a word, the one-winged angel held the other one out to his new student as he took a second bite.

'Oh, what.' The weapon that Sephiroth carried within his arsenal was an absurdly lengthy piece, and she struggled not to dumbly gape at the sight of the gleaming metal. Instead, she swallowed thickly, not trusting herself to speak as her recently acquired mentor produced a pair of succulent fruits for them to dine upon. "Thanks," she said. She accepted the edible gift, an uncertain look presently fixing itself upon her features. The young woman wasn't entirely convinced, far too use to a lifestyle that required some form of currency. Poppy wasn't entirely sure if she was willing to change in that regard, but she would adapt - she always did. Still, forgoing certain comforts would prove unpleasant in the long run. 'But my savings could last for a good while if I'm careful,' she thought. The red-head sniffed at the fruit before taking an experimentally small bite. The food item managed to satisfy her personal tastes, and she went about polishing off the remainder of its tender flesh in a short period of time. Poppy's hunger was temporary satisfied when all that remained were seeds, her stomach working on processing the fruit as she licked her now sticky fingers and lips. "I guess this makes me your student?" It surprised her that he was willing to pick up someone who could honestly be considered a stray. Her fingers interlocked behind her back, her form swaying slightly as she followed up the question with another one. "Have you ever taught someone before?" 'I'm totally asking about the sword next - because damn - how and why?'
