feel the light shining in the dark of the night | This wasn't his first time on this world, but Riku wasn't sure he would ever get used to feeling like he was actually allowed to be here. To be... anywhere. He had spent so long skulking around in the shadows, first under Maleficent's wing and then under the false Organization cloak doing DiZ's and the King's dirty work, that to walk around in broad daylight almost felt wrong. Like at any moment someone would jump out at him, grab him, and tell him that he wasn't meant to be here.
Riku stamped one foot against the ground outside the Colosseum a few times before swinging one arm out. Way To The Dawn sprung into sight, settling into his hand, before vanishing after a moment. Just having the weight resting in his hand for a moment was enough to offer a bit of reassure.
He was allowed to be here. He was still a keyblade wielder. Bearer. Master. That hadn't all just been suddenly taken from him.
Riku's gaze shifted along the now-repaired building, where he knew he would find Phil and the hero Hercules, but he didn't go inside. Instead, the Master started to make his way around the outside, examining every nook and cranny that he could find. Considering all the fights that happened here, this place was a hotbed of heartless activity, and it was one of the places that they always needed to keep an eye on.

"Do you think you can erase your past?"
The Olympus Coliseum... it had been quite some time since Sephiroth found himself here last. He had attempted to search Radiant Garden for Cloud first, since that was one of the last places they last encountered one another, but the fools took steps to keep people like him out. It was almost enraging. It mattered not to the soldier, however. There were still plenty of holes that his quarry could hide in. This was a place where they had fought once before. Perhaps he was here? Sephiroth would find that who he sought was here no longer, but that didn't mean that this place held nothing of interest.
As Sephiroth exited the lobby of the coliseum, he saw a most curious sight; a boy. He kind of reminded the one-winged angel of that Sora kid he fought a few years ago. It wasn't him, though. While Sora carried the overwhelming stench of the light, this boy... he had very clearly been touched by darkness. Like the stench of a skunk's spray on clothing, it never truly came out. What happened next piqued the soldier's curiosity even further, however. With a wave of his hand, he called forth a vaguely key-shaped weapon.
'A keyblade.' Sephiroth hadn't seen the weapon in quite some time, but the appearance and method of summoning was unmistakable. "How fascinating." The silver-haired man smirked briefly before approaching the kid, his arms crossed. The boy recalled his weapon, though he might have wished he kept it drawn by the time their interaction was done. Sephiroth's own weapon, his loyal Masamune, was secured to his hip. The soldier could almost hear it calling for the blood of the Keyblade Master.
Sephiroth would stay his hand for now, though. The boy might have information worth extracting. He stopped mere feet from Riku's back. He stayed silent for a moment, thinking about how easy it would be to draw his sword and run him through. The soldier didn't need to, though. The knowledge that he COULD was more than enough. "You there, key-bearer." The man in black addressed Riku directly, his voice betraying no hint of the murderous intent he had.
"Your heart... it bears the mark of one touched by the darkness. Tell me, what brings you here to this... place?" He looked around at their surroundings with a slight frown at the last word.

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | For a brief moment Riku's eyes narrowed, though he quickly allow the small and momentary expression of displeasure to pass. No reason to outwardly show just how annoyed he was to both be addressed as such, and to know that there was someone who could see such a thing so easily about him. It would be better for Riku to just act calm and collected about this.
"My heart is my own and no one else's. Darkness hasn't touched it; I've touched it, along with my friends." The stranger could argue about this as much as he wanted, but Riku wouldn't budge on this point.
There wasn't darkness in his heart. More... Darkness was a part of him, and would always be, and Riku had long since learned to accept that.
One brow arched as Riku crossed his arms over his chest. "I'm simply making sure there are no heartless in this world. They crop up, drawn by the fighting of the tournaments, and they can be quite a bit of a threat to the fighters here. Which begs the question then, why are you here? You don't look like the type to be a fighter here."

"Do you think you can erase your past?"
Riku Riku reacted about like Sephiroth assumed he would. The man in black smiled an amused smile as Riku went on a spiel about friends and whatnot. How his heart was his own. 'Naive.' The man thought the word with more than a hint of superiority and arrogance. He wouldn't argue that point, though. Whether or not Riku's heart had been touched by the darkness was not the conversation Sephiroth was looking to have. He would simply respond with an insincere line given with a tone that had a drop of amusement in it. "Of course. Forgive me." He knew these types. He had encountered them all throughout his life. When asked what he was doing here, Sephiroth shrugged. "Just looking for somebody; a blond man. A warrior dressed in black. He carries a large sword. Have you seen him?" While Sephiroth doubted the boy would give him a truthful answer even if he had seen Cloud, he wanted to put him in a position where he had to either lie or tell him the truth. It was a game to him. A little song and dance before he dealt with the Keyblade Master. Asking strangers about his target had simply become a formality at this point. He kept his azure gaze fixed on Riku, the silver-haired man's hand resting casually on the pommel of his sword.

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | Sephiroth would have had far more luck getting information from Sora instead of from Riku. The brunet would have recognized the description almost immediately, even with such a little information given. Blond hair, black clothing -- that would describe almost anyone, really. The big sword part did narrow it down a little bit, but not enough to ring any bells for Riku.
He wasn't the one who had spent any time with the Restoration Committee, after all, and Cloud was, reluctantly or not, a member of the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee.
"Doesn't ring a bell, though I'm not sure I would tell you even if I had seen him." Turquoise eyes narrowed slightly as Riku eyed Sephiroth, but it was the only sign of any stress he felt towards the situation at all. "If you're looking for this guy, something tells me that there's a reason you don't know where he is, and I don't think he would be happy if I told you anything about him."
His words made it sound like Riku knew more than he was letting on. A lie, though if the Master really wanted to he was certain he could find out about the blond hair man with a large sword. He would, actually, after this little encounter -- and he would made sure the odd man didn't find him.

"Do you think you can erase your past?"
Riku Sephiroth frowned slightly at Riku's words. Not only had he not seen Cloud, but his attitude about it was getting on the man's nerves. The silver-haired man narrowed his otherworldly blue eyes at the Keyblade Master before him, gripping Masamune's handle eagerly. "You haven't seen him then?" The one-winged angel didn't get the sense that Riku was lying to him. Still, it didn't matter. He got what he needed from the key-bearer. Now it was time to clean up.
Taking his hand off of his sword's handle, the soldier took a single step towards Riku. Sephiroth paused briefly before introducing himself. "My name is Sephiroth. If you make it out of this alive, be sure and remember that." He brought his right fist to his chest, then threw it out to the side. A single black wing unfurled from his back, spreading several black feathers over the area. "...But do not despair, I will make sure that you die here."
Sephiroth spread his stance and lowered his center of gravity, wrapping his left hand around Masamune's handle in preparation to attack. "Now, come. Show me your skill, Keyblade wielder. Die in a way worth remembering." Sephiroth exuded an aura of dark malevolence. This battle was happening, whether Riku was ready for it or not. If he declined Sephiroth's invitation at a first strike, Sephiroth would simply be the one to get things started.
OOC; Sephiroth is rarin' for a battle! =D

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | A single laugh escaped Riku, the sound short and barking and almost a mockery of what it was supposed to be. "Now where have I heard that before..." A slight roll of his eyes, coupled with a shake of his head and a shrug of his shoulders.
"Do you know how many people I've had try to kill me? More than I could count at this point, and all of them have been far more menacing than you."
Antagonizing a foe with an unknown skill set was not really the smartest thing to do. Riku wasn't an idiot and this was a poor way to start off a fight. But maybe a period of peace had made him grow a bit lax, or a bit lazy.
Or maybe he just didn't care, or just couldn't possibly view this man as a threat.
Way To The Dawn snapped to his hand as dark magic swirled around it. Riku flung his free hand forward as the black cloud seemed almost magnetically drawn towards Sephiroth's face. His goal really wasn't to hurt the other, but to blind him--
And to use that moment to just dart aside into the Colosseum proper.

"Do you think you can erase your past?"
Riku Sephiroth didn't quite expect Riku to run away. He thought those who wielded Keyblades were supposed to brave. Though the only ever Keyblade wielder he really met was Sora, so he didn't really know much about them as individuals. As Riku threw a spell at his face, Sephiroth tried his best to see through the darkness, but to no avail. He growled and waved away the cloud of black smoke as best he could. Eventually, the magic dissipated just in time for Sephiroth to see Riku flee into the lobby of the coliseum. The soldier frowned, standing up straight and looking towards where his target fled. "Coward." The man in black drew his sword and began walking casually towards the coliseum proper. He kicked open the door once he got in range, an expression of slight annoyance on his face. Sephiroth took a step into the lobby, wary of an ambush. His training was etched deep in his mind. Almost without thinking, he could identify conditions for an ambush and put himself on guard instantly. He would scan the interior, looking for Riku. If he did not find him here, he would next make his way to the arena. Sephiroth wasn't going to let this one get away.

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | Riku reached up to pinch at the bridge of his nose, a silent (but heavy) sigh escaping him as he heard the other entering behind him. Of course this asshole is going to follow me...
He could try an actual confrontation. His actions probably made it seem like he was trying to run away, but he really wasn't afraid of fighting the strange man. Riku was, after all, one of the few Keyblade Masters. Whoever this stranger was, he was fully confident he could take him during a one on one fight.
But a one on one fight had the potential to drag in bystanders and to turn into something nasty. Better to run away and report back to his Union Leader and allow for her to make the decision over what to do than to engage in outright confrontation here. After all, his only targets were meant to be heartless, not others.
The keyblade master kept the stranger in his peripheral as he edged around one of the columns inside, making sure to keep it between him and the other. His goal was the door the Sephiroth had come in, so that he could just duck back to his gummi ship and leave.

"Do you think you can erase your past?" RikuThe soldier continued through the lobby, looking under every rock for his target. At this point, his goal wasn't even to fight him. Cowards were no fun to battle against. At this point, Riku was worth more to him alive. With a sigh, he sheathed his sword. He was about to continue into the arena when he noticed a curious sight in one of the metal braziers that lined the walls. He saw the reflection of the boy trying to sneak out. 'Hmph. Slippery little key-bearer.' The man in black pretended not to notice the boy for a moment. He would wait until he was almost up to the door before speaking in at a volume high enough to echo throughout the lobby.. "Before you scurry away, answer me this; who do you work for?" Sephiroth turned to face Riku, his azure orbs burning with hate. "I want someone who can provide me with an interesting distraction while I wait for Cloud. It is clear to me now that this person is not you. Even Sora was interesting, if a little irritating. You are simply annoying."The one-winged angel gave the silver-haired boy a sinister smile. "If there is one thing I cannot stand, it is someone with power refusing to use it. Those people are cowardly." He approached the boy. "The situation you find yourself in is perilous, but there is an easy way out. Answer my simple question and I will allow you to leave."

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | As much as he wanted to be, Riku wasn't really surprised when he heard Sephiroth's voice addressing him from behind. Part of him was tempted to simply shove the door open and bolt, but would that really get him anywhere? The other would just follow, though the Keyblade Master was fairly certain he would be able to reach the gummi ship drop point before he was caught.
A laugh -- the second one at Sephiroth's expense -- escaped Riku as he turned back to look at the other. "I'm afraid I'm just going to have to leave you disappointed. I don't make it a habit to tell dangerous people about those that I care about."
And a pause, followed by a slight narrowing of his eyes.
"I don't need you to allow me to do anything. You're not the first the threaten me and you won't be the last, and you won't be the first to force me into doing something for you." A younger and more impulsive Riku might have coupled the statement with a rude, one handed gesture, but he was able to suppress that urge. Instead, just a simple turn and shove of the doors as he started outside.
Some people were ones to give into pressure-- Riku was not on that list.

"Do you think you can erase your past?"
Sephiroth smirked at Riku's response. He had a strong personality. Like Cloud. Men like that interested the soldier. He had no interest in making enemies out of weak-willed clods. man is defined by who his enemies are, and Sephiroth would not allow an enemy to be made out of the unworthy. It seemed that Riku would not be giving in to the pressure. That was fine. As Riku laughed once more, Sephiroth simply kept his smirk, staring at the boy.
The Keyblade Master had passed every test thus far. Perhaps he believed that he would walk away from this conversation having given Sephiroth nothing. However, this was not entirely true. While the soldier had not learned who Riku worked for, he learned something almost equally as important; that the boy before him cared for them. That was almost more important than actually learning their identity.
As the Keyblade wielder turned to leave, Sephiroth gave him one final statement. "Report to your superior. Tell them what happened here." He said it for more reasons than one. He knew from the brief time they knew each other that Riku disliked Sephiroth telling him what to do. He suspected that he would report to his superior anyway-- whoever they were-- and he would tell them about what had transpired. A small victory for the man in black. "Tell them Sephiroth sends his regards, and..." He narrowed his eyes at the boy. "...that i'll be watching with great interest."
He smirked one final time before darkness came up from the ground at his feet, slowly swallowing him whole as Riku left the lobby. Once the shadows vanished, Sephiroth was gone.
Thread exit! Had a great time. :3

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | Riku found himself tempted to glance over his shoulder to glance back at Sephiroth one final moment-- but he squashed that urge, instead just pushing forward to step out into the hot, Greecian sun. The sudden shift in light source had him grimacing for a moment, eyes squinting, but he didn't make any attempt to shield his gaze.
No. Walk forward calmly. Listen, but stay calm. It felt like every inch of his body was vibrating and he had to struggle to push that aside too. Losing his cool wouldn't help him, especially if the stranger did decide to come after him.
It seemed like Sephiroth was a man of his word, though. Or a man of Riku's word. There was no sign of the other as the Keyblade Master walked to the gummi ship, and he found himself exiting the world with no further trouble. And that... was more worrisome than if he had been attacked.
"Luna, I'm heading back home." A few buttons were pressed and levers pushed as the course back to the Land of Departure was plugged in. "I'm not sure if you'll be happy with what I have to report."
