"I like this place," she said. The seemingly abandoned fortress served as her temporary place of rest. Its hallways felt endless and were visibly drenched by a thick accumulation of shadow. Each step caused dust to flutter and flow underneath, and Poppy couldn't help but feel intrigued by the numerous nooks and crannies that begged exploration. Unfortunately, it was very likely that this place had been picked clean numerous times over, which would leave her with nothing valuable to repossess. 'But it's so big,' she thought, a small grin forming. 'It's a shame no one's taking advantage of it. You'd think a big bad would take up living here.' Poppy imagined herself taking residency here and hiding her personal assortment of treasures within the sizable fortress's depths. 'One day,' she promised. 'I can't afford to stay in one place, for now. I'm not strong enough to claim something as big as this.' She peered out of one of the numerous windows, eyes growing round as she was offered the wondrous sight of a vast forest that rested far below. " Wicked." @ o p e n

i'm free, i'm free to be THE GREATEST "Unsurprising, considering the forest outside."
The redhead wasn't standing far away. Her keyblade was visible at the moment and her hands were relaxed, clasped behind her back as she peered curiously out one of the dirty and broken windows. Her nose wrinkled before she shook her head and sneezed, a layer of dirt and dust billowing up as the young woman had to taken a step back.
"Ah--" Babel rubbed the back of her hand against her nose before she turned to grin at the other. "A bit dusty in here, isn't it? There needs to be a cleanin' crew that comes in here before anything here happens. I mean, Cats and Cards, could you imagine living here? The creepy crawlies probably have creepy crawlies of their own."
She wasn't oblivious. Someone who was prancing around the abandoned Witch's castle had to be far from a Good Person. That didn't meant that Babel had to go into this conversation on guard, or had to immediately treat her like an enemy.

Startled, the younger woman hurriedly backpedaled from the window and turned her body toward the source of the voice. She would blink owlishly at the sight of a young woman before she grew visibly tense. Her sixth sense prickled unpleasantly, her form remaining stiff before she forced herself to take on a more relaxed posture. Poppy's silver-eyed gaze remained locked upon the sight of the unfamiliar red-head as she crossed her arms. "And here I thought I was alone," she said, her tone proving difficult to decipher. Poppy breathed these words, continuing to eye the pretty stranger for a moment longer. "What are you doing here," the teenager asked. "Out for a walk?" Her gaze swept across the decrepit state of the fortress and how this stranger looked woefully out of place within its macabre interior. After a moment of consideration, suspicion pinched at her once neutral expression. "You one of those Union types?"

i'm free, i'm free to be THE GREATEST "Union?" she parroted back, red eyes blinking as her head canted to the side. "Mmm, no miss. My family was staunchly for the White Queen. We never supported Union Jack, though I know he did try to make a name for himself once the Red Queen went and got herself in trouble after all that Alice business. Messy thing. 'But Babel dear-' That's my mom, she's the only one who calls me dear. 'Babel dear, don't you go messin' around with that Union fellow. He's from that Upside Down Place where That Girl-' and see, That Girl is what we all called Alice. '-That Girl is from, and I don't want you getting messed up with it too.'"
Funny really, since the Upside Down Place -- or the Other Worlds, as they turned out to be -- turned out to be the calling for Babel's life.
The redhaired girl's lips curved into a slight moue as she pressed a finger against one cheek. "Hmm... I think I was...?" A blink, followed by an almost visible light seeming to ignite behind her eyes as she stepped forward to take the other girl's hands. Or, at least she would attempt to as best she could, considering the other's crossed-armed stance.
"We should take a walk together! It's far more fun to explore with two instead of one!"

Poppy openly stared at the older female as she spoke without taking pause for what felt like a solid minute, her words soon melding together into one incomprehensible blurb. The young thief was left uncertain, her mind continuing to draw a blank as she peered at the red head. Oddly enough, Poppy could only feel amusement - not irritation - as she stood idle and simply listened. She had even managed a small smile and a quirked brow prior to the stranger's bold movements. It was only when her hands were taken that the teenager's smile would vanish almost instantly. "..." Her cheeks immediately reddened, her heart's rhythm increasing in its pacing as she was innocently touched by this irritatingly pretty stranger. Poppy glanced at that face for a only a moment, her once hostile state of mind shifting as her own damnable hormones left her vulnerable. "I - yes, I guess." The young woman shifted her gaze, pointedly avoiding the stranger's shimmering orbs. 'Ah - f - ck. Why?' "I mean, only for a little while," she muttered, a childish huff escaping her.

i'm free, i'm free to be THE GREATEST "Because exploring places with friends is more fun than doing it alone, silly!"
The idea, nay, the fact that others would so blithely refer to someone that they had just met as a friend felt like a foreign concept to the red-haired girl, and was something that she would just-- well, not scoff at, because scoffing wasn't really in her vocabulary, but giggle a bit awkwardly and uncomfortably at. How could they not be friends? They had met and they had talked so-? They certainly weren't strangers, and if they weren't strangers then they were friends.
That was just all there was to it.
Babel allowed one hand to move free and her other hand slipped down, squeezing the other girl's hand before starting to tug her along. "I'm Babel, though I think I already told you that. Well I didn't quite tell you that so plainly, not in a 'this is my way' kind of way but I told you what my mother called me so you probably could have figured out what my name was. But you never can tell. Parents call their kids all sorts of strange things so my name might have been Babelina or Babe or Bubel for you knew. Babel might have just been a pet name." Solid sound logic that was coupled with a short nod and a bright smile.
"What's your name?" A question that was coupled with a bright skip in her step and another one: "Have you heard the story of the fairy that used to live in this castle?"

"... 'mm Poppy." Her silver-eyed gaze remained averted, her ears taking in the flow of words that spilled from this 'Babel's' mouth. Everything about the unfamiliar girl screamed friendly, and Poppy was honestly ill-equipped to handle such a display. Her social skills were poorly developed, and her mannerisms, posturing and sloppy attempts at articulation would make this fairly obvious to a keen eye. 'Why'd ya say yes, idiot?' She thought. 'She actually said she was one of those Union bastards. Probably has one of those Keyblades shoved up her ass.' Had she been a touch stronger, she would have reached for one of her daggers. The items were presently tucked away within a leather hilt, each comfortably situated upon her hip. But her talent lay in thieving - and she still held a natural aversion to slicing at someone with the pointed items. "I haven't," she continued, managing to somehow respond to the question. "I've only visited this place twice before, I think." Her imprisoned hand twitched, the flush that had settled upon her cheeks remaining embarrassingly pink because of it. "So you're here to what? Explore? Is that it?"

i'm free, i'm free to be THE GREATEST She smiled gently at the slightly-shorted girl. "Poppy? That's such a sweet name." Like some of the flower fields from back home, though Babel wasn't about to bring those up. Those had a tendency to make people a bit light headed and giddy, and not always in the best of ways.
Babel misread the nervous twitching coming from the other girl and gave her a squeeze in return before slipping her hand free. "I suppose, but I guess also to pay respects." The redhead danced a few steps away before hopping up onto one of the toppled stone slabs, balancing on the edge with her arms outstretched. "It's a sad story. I think it's a sad story.
"See, the story goes that-- well, there's two versions of the story. The one everyone hears is that there's this evil fairy that cursed the princess of heart, Aurora, and trapped the kingdom in eternal sleep while she slept and all in response to not being invited to the princess' first birthday. A bit of an overreaction really but one you could expect from the Mistress of Aaalll Evviiiiil." Babel stretched her arms out over the last words to emphasis them.
"... but... the other story is that... the fairy who lived here used to fell in love with a human, and the human betrayed her love grievously. And that is..."
A heavy sigh, one of the first unhappy emotes to come from the young woman, escaped her.
"Well it just seems awful to me, the idea that you could hurt someone who loves you so much."

Despite the subject of the story - the underlying tragedy - Poppy wasn't moved. It was very rarely that such things could successfully prod at her 'sensitive' side. "You've gotta do whatcha feel is right," she defended. "Sometimes that means betraying someone else's trust." Her argument was flimsy, but one she stood by. Then again, she had yet to properly develop an attachment with another. All the bonds she presently had were tentative, at best. They were terribly fresh and could easily be broken due to a lack of metaphorical weight behind them. "It's probably not true, anyway," she said, shrugging. "I wouldn't get too hung up on someone else's story." She finally raised her gaze, peering at Babel as the pretty red-head teetered on the edge. 'I could push her,' she considered. 'Nah.' Something was stopping her - she just wasn't entirely sure what that 'something' was. It irritated her, and Poppy struggled to keep a little sneer from her lips. "How about you focus on your own?" She advised, her tone only slightly unpleasant. "You're one of those Keyblade wielders, right?"

i'm free, i'm free to be THE GREATEST "That's one way to look at things." Babel certainly wasn't phased by Poppy's rather flippant response, and she simply smiled from her slight perch on the fallen pieces of parapet. "And it's how the people here looked at it. The fae looked scary and she was strong and powerful. Betraying her was a way to protect his kingdom, so why wouldn't he do everything he could to justify it? And maybe it really was the only thing he could do."
Babel wobbled for a moment as she twisted to face Poppy, leaning forward as she raised a finger to press it conspiratorially against the side of her lips. "Buuuut. The kingdom suffered greatly because of it too. Even if he was right and he had to act, maybe if someone had shown the fae compassion things might have turned out differently. Or maybe it's just important to always remembered that bad things aren't done by bad people. Just sad people."
The story of Maleficent, and how it had been twisted, watered down, and diluted over the ages was something that fascinated her. Perhaps saddened her as well, though Babel did her best to not dwell on feelings like that. It wasn't like she could do anything to change the past, after all, so why let herself sink into those sad thoughts?
"My own what? Story?" Red eyes blinked as she looked over at the younger girl curiously. "I can't write my own story, silly. No one can. It's up to other people to write the story of what you've done after you've done it."
The topic of the keyblade was one she deftly danced around, choosing to just keep on talking about the more inane ones.
"Besides, my talents aren't really with writing." The redhead shrugged her shoulders before finally hopping down. Babel smiled at Poppy before cocking her head to the side. "What about you, though? Do you have a story?"

Poppy's eyes would narrow slightly as she took notice to Babel's lack of response regarding whether or not she was in possession of the light-affiliated weapon. But the girl decided against verbally critiquing the red-head for her aversion of the topic. Instead, her expression grew slightly pinched, her eyes revealing a suspicious light. "I do," she replied. Her facial features exposed a notably flat look shortly after, memories resurfacing and being replayed within the confines of her skull in no particular order. She released a little sigh, shook her head, and decided that perhaps it would be best that they move on to another topic. 'Or end the conversation, altogether. I wouldn't mind that.' The coloring of her cheeks had faded but would return as her own silver-eyed gaze clashed with Babel's. She felt a surge of irritation, helpless to prevent such a reaction to the girl's nearness. "But it doesn't matter," she continued. "Not now, at least." Another little huff. "I just wander." 'And steal. That's how I support my lifestyle nowadays, anyway.' "You mentioned wanting to explore?" Poppy asked. "I wouldn't mind that. I'm looking for an empty bed for the night, actually." She was tired, and wanted someplace comfortable and safe to rest.

i'm free, i'm free to be THE GREATEST She nodded, clearly waiting to be an attentive audience for whatever story Poppy was about to tell her--
--only there was no story. Just a slight dismissal of the topic and moving onto another one. Babel felt a small touch of disappointment but just nodded as she bounced along the balls of her feet. If Poppy didn't want to talk about herself then she wasn't about to push it!
"Yup!" Babel nodded before her brow furrow slightly, a bit confused by the next statement that came from the other girl. "Wait-- you're looking for a place to sleep? Here? But this place is dark and dusty and creepy and-!" And it was likely she just wouldn't have anywhere else to go.
"You don't have to spend the night here. My Mama would have a spare bed for sure if you needed a place to sleep."

Poppy released a little sigh, once again shaking her head as she went about refusing the offer as gently as she could possibly manage. "I'd rather not," she replied. "I'm use to sleeping in places like these, anyway." Her gaze swept across their immediate surroundings, the once stagnant darkness forced to retreat due to the moon's light. It was perfectly spherical on this particular night, and the fortress offered an undeniably spectacular view of the pale orb. Only the occasional cloud would mar the sight of it - but only for a few short moments as it drifted past. 'It wouldn't be so bad to find a room with this kinda view,' she thought. "I... appreciate the offer," she said, her tone odd. "But I suggest you clear out. I don't see a weapon on you - so your chances aren't looking too great if Heartless were to - I dunno - pop up?" Poppy proceeded to step past the young woman, her lips set in a flat line and her gaze focused. "I want to get settled in for the night, anyway," she declared. "I'm kinda tired."

i'm free, i'm free to be THE GREATEST "And the same could be said for you, Miss Poppy," Babel pointed out-- literally, with a slight jab towards the other's chest with her index finger. "So what you're sayin' is that it's okay for you to go traipsin' about where it's dangerous while you're unarmed but heaven forbid if you do the same thing?"
A slight 'tsk' escaped the red-haired girl as she shook her head. "I'm not as delicate as you seem to think I am either. You're a bit crazy for likin' to sleep in places like this, but I can help you hunt out a bed that's still, uh... usable? Serviceable?" A slight wrinkle of her nose as she tried to work out just what would be the actual correct way to describe the state of whatever dusty and rotted mess they would find.
"Maybe if I get lucky you'll even change your mind. I mean, you might not, but there's not reason for me to give up hope."
She smiled brightly before twisting and bouncing forward, starting -- hurrying, really -- down the hallway. Babel stopped after several feet to gesture for Poppy to follow before continuing on, making it clear that Poppy had two choices: Either let her run off into the ruins herself, or follow.

"I'm carrying," Poppy replied. "A weapon, I mean." She gestured toward her waist, signifying the placement of her daggers. Each resided withinin the comfy confines of a leathery hilt, and Poppy could only hope she would have little need to make use of the blades on this night. "And I'm not gonna change my mind," she insisted, brows furrowing slightly. "But you're free to help out, I guess." The young woman blinked as she observe Babel's beckoning hand gesture, opening her mouth to speak once more before she was forced to pursue the unsurprisingly agile red-head. Their footsteps echoed throughout the halls of this decrepit place, the emptied interior causing even the the most subtle of sounds to grow startling eerie in quality. Poppy's eyes remained trained upon her surroundings as she maintained a decent pacing, unwilling to allow for some sly predator or bumbling Heartless to gain some form of advantage due to her own inattentiveness. "You're from Wonderland?" She asked, deciding to continue onward with their conversation. "I remember you mentioning a Red Queen, I think? Why are you here, then?" 'I don't think she bothered to even answer my earlier question,' she thought. 'Not clearly, at least.'
