"What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion." Babel Thank whatever gods might be that this girl was only half-insane as as opposed to completely insane like the rest of these fools. That was the first thought that crossed Sephiroth's mind. Unfortunately, that observation wasn't entirely accurate. When asked if he knew how to bend or "dance with" time, the man in black shook his head. "No. I haven't tried before." Then something happened that the soldier did not expect in the slightest. This girl... this girl he had only just met... started playing with his hair. It wouldn't have mattered if Sephiroth had known Babel his entire life. They could have been childhood friends and he would not have appreciated that just as much. The man pulled away instinctively, moving a few feet away from Babel and giving her a look of confused anger. Then she introduced herself, complimenting his hair and asking if she could braid it. "What? No. I don't know you." As if that was the problem. Sephiroth was one not so easily taken aback, but there was a first time for everything. 'What could possibly be so intriguing about my hair?' He thought to himself. The soldier couldn't come up with any answers though. "Why would you ask to braid a stranger's hair? Surely you were raised to be smarter than that." Sephiroth assumed that the whole "don't talk to strangers" thing was a universal lesson parents taught their kids. At least that asking to braid a stranger's hair was entirely inappropriate.

"I've thought of a wonderful present for you..." @poppy
Sephiroth had gotten about half of his fruit eaten by the time Poppy finished hers. She seemed to like it, though it was probably not what she was used to. True, he had the luxury of being used to eating like this, but Poppy had to learn quickly that comfort was a weakness. If you are comfortable, you are complacent. If you are complacent, you go soft... and if you are soft, you can be easily defeated in battle. It was simple truth. Obvious if one thought about it long and deeply enough.
The more he spoke to Poppy, the more it was obvious to him that she had much to learn. Speaking of, she asked the silver-haired man if this officially made her his student now. Sephiroth chuckled slightly, finishing off his fruit before crossing his arms. "Hm. I suppose it does. Though you might wish I left you here by the time we really get started training. It will be an arduous process. You will face struggles the likes of which you haven't even imagined before... but at the end of it, you will find it was all worthwhile."
Then she asked if he had ever taught anyone before. While he never really had someone who trained under him formally, he had acted in a mentor role for others a long time ago. He was a figure that his colleagues looked up to, so it was rather natural. "Not formally, no. I have mentored many warriors in the past, but none have officially trained under me before. You would be the first in that regard."

"Do you think you can erase your past?"
Riku Sephiroth frowned slightly at Riku's words. Not only had he not seen Cloud, but his attitude about it was getting on the man's nerves. The silver-haired man narrowed his otherworldly blue eyes at the Keyblade Master before him, gripping Masamune's handle eagerly. "You haven't seen him then?" The one-winged angel didn't get the sense that Riku was lying to him. Still, it didn't matter. He got what he needed from the key-bearer. Now it was time to clean up.
Taking his hand off of his sword's handle, the soldier took a single step towards Riku. Sephiroth paused briefly before introducing himself. "My name is Sephiroth. If you make it out of this alive, be sure and remember that." He brought his right fist to his chest, then threw it out to the side. A single black wing unfurled from his back, spreading several black feathers over the area. "...But do not despair, I will make sure that you die here."
Sephiroth spread his stance and lowered his center of gravity, wrapping his left hand around Masamune's handle in preparation to attack. "Now, come. Show me your skill, Keyblade wielder. Die in a way worth remembering." Sephiroth exuded an aura of dark malevolence. This battle was happening, whether Riku was ready for it or not. If he declined Sephiroth's invitation at a first strike, Sephiroth would simply be the one to get things started.

"I've thought of a wonderful present for you..." @poppy
There it was again. That eagerness to learn. She wanted strength, and he could offer it to her; for a price. Though that was how it went with everything. There was always a price for power. Sephiroth knew that all too well. While it wouldn't be clear just yet what that price would be, it would come collection time eventually. Once the two shook hands, Sephiroth smirked. "Very well, then. It's decided." Poppy still had more questions, however. Namely, how she could be expected to make money.
Spoken like a true city dweller, believing that money was a necessity. Sephiroth himself never really had much of a need for money. Especially lately. "People survived for years and years without currency. Without even bartering. The wilds can provide you with all the sustenance you could want." Sephiroth had been trained in survival, being a soldier. He never went hungry, as it was rather easy with someone of his skillset to hunt down food and water. It was even trivial.
To demonstrate, the soldier released Poppy's hand, looking up at the trees. "There. Perfect." He next gripped Masamune's handle. In what seemed like an instant, the man in black had drawn his five foot long sword and slashed upwards into the trees. Sephiroth sheathed his blade as two red, lumpy spheres the size of volleyballs fell from the trees. Without even looking, Sephiroth caught the two spheres in his hands and brought one to his mouth, taking a bite.
It was good. Slightly sweet, crunchy, and juicy. A good source of hydration and nourishment. Without a word, the one-winged angel held the other one out to his new student as he took a second bite.

"Overconfidence will destroy you."
The world of Halloween Town was in a state of bustle and jubilation. It was Halloween... again. For the fifth time this year. With the day of celebration so close, the boils and ghouls had been working overtime to make their town ready for the show. Sephiroth would be lying if he said the macabre celebration didn't interest him a bit. The effects of this world were rather interesting too. Upon appearing here, the man in black found himself in what appeared to be some sort of costume.
Though it wasn't a normal costume. It appeared to be apart of him. His single black wing was out on full display on his right shoulder, a smaller wing on his left one. He had a black raven mask covering the top part of his face. His cloak took on a more feathery appearance, his boots morphing to look like the talons of a bird. It was an inconvenience, but a small one. It wouldn't hinder his search for Cloud; that was the most important thing.
He hoped that it wasn't permanent, though. That would be a real pain. Sephiroth's search had taken him beyond the town proper and into a graveyard of some kind, a strange hill overlooking the area. The silver-haired raven-man stood on the hill currently, looking out over the wide ocean of headstones dotting the barren land. "Cloud... why would he be in a place like this?" At this point, he decided to stand there and wait. Maybe Cloud would come to him as he always seemed to?

"What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion." BabelThis world... was obnoxious. Nothing followed order here. Everything was bright, colorful... loud. Oh so loud. Sephiroth valued his peace and quiet, but it seemed that he would receive none of that here. 'I don't feel Cloud here, and I can't get any of the locals to speak in something other than riddles and incoherent babble. Perhaps it's time to leave.' The man in black walked past a girl on his way to find a good spot to make an exit. He ignored her initially, but she finally spoke to him directly. The questions she asked was a strange one, but one he could understand. "Time is not a linear construct." He turned to face Babel. "It can go forwards, backwards, up, down... sometimes even diagonal." Speaking of abstract concepts like time, you inevitably end up in strange and vague metaphors like that. "Short answer, yes. If you know how, you can make time do whatever you want." While Sephiroth spoke like he knew much about the concept, he knew very little. It was something that was a mystery even to him. That being the case, he also didn't know how to make time do what he wanted. It would be a rather interesting and useful skill to learn, though. He was aware of magic that could stop time. Maybe that would be a good place to start. His mind went back to the subject at hand, however; Cloud. Now that he found someone who was at least semi-coherent, the man in black figured he would ask his question once more. "Sephiroth." He gestured to himself. With that brief introduction, he asked his question. "I am looking for a blond warrior dressed in black. He carries a large sword. Have you seen him?" Right to the point as usual.

"Do you think you can erase your past?"
Riku Riku reacted about like Sephiroth assumed he would. The man in black smiled an amused smile as Riku went on a spiel about friends and whatnot. How his heart was his own. 'Naive.' The man thought the word with more than a hint of superiority and arrogance. He wouldn't argue that point, though. Whether or not Riku's heart had been touched by the darkness was not the conversation Sephiroth was looking to have. He would simply respond with an insincere line given with a tone that had a drop of amusement in it. "Of course. Forgive me." He knew these types. He had encountered them all throughout his life. When asked what he was doing here, Sephiroth shrugged. "Just looking for somebody; a blond man. A warrior dressed in black. He carries a large sword. Have you seen him?" While Sephiroth doubted the boy would give him a truthful answer even if he had seen Cloud, he wanted to put him in a position where he had to either lie or tell him the truth. It was a game to him. A little song and dance before he dealt with the Keyblade Master. Asking strangers about his target had simply become a formality at this point. He kept his azure gaze fixed on Riku, the silver-haired man's hand resting casually on the pommel of his sword.

"I've thought of a wonderful present for you..." @poppy
Sephiroth let out a chortle when poppy observed that he had been alone for quite some time. "Observant. You are correct. I feel... I have been alone for my entire life. Just because you have people around you doesn't mean you are not alone." He listened to the girl as she told him her age and how long it had been since she left her home. In the grand scheme of things, it wasn't that long. Just long enough to learn the skills you need to survive or just long enough to die. The fact that she was still here said something about her own ability.
Someone so young surviving out on their own like this... that said something as well. Poppy then asked if he was going to be heading out on his way soon to look for Cloud, his "enemy." The man in black nodded slightly. "Yes. I still have much ground to cover. This conversation has been... enlightening, however. I do not regret it." He turned to leave, pretending to hesitate for a moment before turning his head to look back at the girl. "Would you like to join me? You have much potential. There is a lot that I can teach you."
Sephiroth gave Poppy a half smile before turning back towards her and extending a hand in her direction. "Simply take my hand... and i'll show you what you are truly capable of." The darkness hanging over this teen's heart, once nurtured, would turn her into a powerful tool. While Sephiroth intended for ehr to serve his own ends, he knew that she must have goals of her own. If Poppy went for his hand, he would withdraw it briefly. "One thing first; you must be willing to do what is necessary to get stronger."
He smirked. "First of all, know that you needn't steal any longer. There are other ways to get what you need to survive." With that, he would extend his hand to her once more.

"I've thought of a wonderful present for you..." @poppy
Sephiroth almost wanted to laugh when the girl asked him what it was like to kill someone. It seemed like such an odd question. Perhaps he had committed the act so many times that it lost its impact? Taking a life didn't really mean much to him anymore. It was rarely personal, anyway. The soldier tried to think back to the first time he killed someone. It was so long ago, he couldn't really remember any details like who it was, why they had to die, or even how he felt before or after the fact. He was one drop in an ocean. Or was it a she? Again, he couldn't remember the details. They weren't important to him anyway.
At last, he answered her question. "If you're asking what it was like the first time, I don't remember. That would be like asking a baker to describe the first cake he ever baked." A clumsy analogy, but it worked for now. "How it feels when you kill someone all depends on the reason. Ideally, you feel nothing. Life and death are seamless. You can cross over into one just as easily as the other." Sephiroth knew this better than almost anyone. "That being the case, forcing someone into one of those states isn't difficult or something that needs to be rationalized and justified." He crossed his arms. "Another thing as well, you will find as you get older that the world is rarely black and white."
The silver-haired man spoke in a serious tone. "Right and wrong are merely opinions. Everyone believes their moral code to be superior to everyone else's. Carve your own path. That is the way to true strength." Sephiroth paused briefly, then smiled slightly at the girl, ever more amused. "That advice is free." This girl was... interesting to say the least. The man in black wasn't sure why he was doling out advice to this girl. Maybe he found it a little too tempting to resist molding her. Would she be molded though? It appeared so, but they only just met. Sephiroth would not know for sure until there were concrete results.

"I've thought of a wonderful present for you..." @poppy
Sephiroth listened to Poppy as she recounted her days in her hometown. She sounded like one of the rebellious types. He saw plenty of them back home, though it seemed like ages since he had last been there. At the mention Poppy stole a lot, Sephiroth grimaced. 'Hm. A thief then.' Sephiroth was a lot of things. People called him a murderer, a villain, a monster... these things might very well be true, but a thief was one thing he wasn't. Still, she mentioned how she didn't want to conform to their way of living. That was something the man in black could relate to.
He too was something of a conformist before his eyes were opened and his purpose made clear. "You shouldn't worry about conforming to any society's standards. It sounds to me like you are better off without them." He looked up at the night sky, a small smirk finding its way onto his face. "Life is rarely not complicated, child. You might not see it yet, but we have a great deal in common." Then she asked about him and the kinds of things he did. He could tell her everything. Spill the beans entirely about the friends he betrayed, the people he killed, one or another of his evil plans... but he wouldn't.
He would give her something, though. He couldn't expect her to tell him everything without giving her a bit of information himself. It might even help build a little bit of trust as well. He shrugged in response to her question. "I have done much in my life. I used to be a soldier, taking orders and killing people who had not so much as raised a hand against me. Sabotage, frontline assault... assassination. These are just a few of the kinds of orders I was given..." He looked back at Poppy with an amused smile. "...and they called me a hero. Only after I began to work for myself did they turn against me and call me a monster."

"I've thought of a wonderful present for you..." @poppy
A Friend? Sephiroth internally scoffed at the idea at first. Upon further introspection, however, the soldier came to a different conclusion. His obsession with the former SOLDIER consumed his existence. Endless battle with Cloud had become his reason for being. That being the case, Cloud had become something of a friend. Was this legitimate kinship he felt, though? Or something else? Something else Poppy mentioned caught Sephiroth's ention. It was her mention of the Unions. Of course, being a man who gets around, the soldier couldn't help but notice the presence of these Unions.
They had been systematically eradicating the Heartless in every world they could. Sephiroth normally had no care for the petty squabbles of these people. He had a higher purpose. A greater purpose. But now these people stood in his way. For this reason, he had a disdain for these Unions. Things were better before they came along. Simpler. At the mention of friends being hard to come by, Sephiroth flipped his hair over his shoulder and to his back. "I have no use for friends. This man is... something else entirely to me."
An answer that was not entirely accurate, but one that would do for now. When the girl stated that he was from Twilight Town, Sephiroth took note of that. He hadn't been to Twilight Town and he would likely never go. The Unions had a strong presence there. It was unlikely he would be able to set foot there unchallenged. But the one-winged angel had no time to waste on inconsequential worlds. This girl-- Poppy-- something about her drew Sephiroth's interest. Maybe it was the darkness he smelled on her, or the way she seemed to be a little bundle of youth and anger.
For some reason, when he looked at her, he saw a lump of clay; a lump of raw potential. One that could be molded to suit his purposes. 'Now there's an interesting thought...' Sephiroth softened his expression as he spoke to Poppy again. "What did you do in Twilight Town that would cause the people to lead you to believe you no longer have a home there?" Sephiroth was slightly interested in her answer. He knew that he would learn much about the girl from her answer.

"Do you think you can erase your past?"
The Olympus Coliseum... it had been quite some time since Sephiroth found himself here last. He had attempted to search Radiant Garden for Cloud first, since that was one of the last places they last encountered one another, but the fools took steps to keep people like him out. It was almost enraging. It mattered not to the soldier, however. There were still plenty of holes that his quarry could hide in. This was a place where they had fought once before. Perhaps he was here? Sephiroth would find that who he sought was here no longer, but that didn't mean that this place held nothing of interest.
As Sephiroth exited the lobby of the coliseum, he saw a most curious sight; a boy. He kind of reminded the one-winged angel of that Sora kid he fought a few years ago. It wasn't him, though. While Sora carried the overwhelming stench of the light, this boy... he had very clearly been touched by darkness. Like the stench of a skunk's spray on clothing, it never truly came out. What happened next piqued the soldier's curiosity even further, however. With a wave of his hand, he called forth a vaguely key-shaped weapon.
'A keyblade.' Sephiroth hadn't seen the weapon in quite some time, but the appearance and method of summoning was unmistakable. "How fascinating." The silver-haired man smirked briefly before approaching the kid, his arms crossed. The boy recalled his weapon, though he might have wished he kept it drawn by the time their interaction was done. Sephiroth's own weapon, his loyal Masamune, was secured to his hip. The soldier could almost hear it calling for the blood of the Keyblade Master.
Sephiroth would stay his hand for now, though. The boy might have information worth extracting. He stopped mere feet from Riku's back. He stayed silent for a moment, thinking about how easy it would be to draw his sword and run him through. The soldier didn't need to, though. The knowledge that he COULD was more than enough. "You there, key-bearer." The man in black addressed Riku directly, his voice betraying no hint of the murderous intent he had.
"Your heart... it bears the mark of one touched by the darkness. Tell me, what brings you here to this... place?" He looked around at their surroundings with a slight frown at the last word.

"I've thought of a wonderful present for you..." @poppy
Surprise. An expected reaction. Sephiroth was aware of his off-putting appearance. More often than not, it was a boon. It made it rather easy to extract information from most sources. Usually, people would give him what he wanted just to get the man in black out of their sight. He took note of the girl's name, giving his own in return when asked for it. "Sephiroth." While one might expect a 'nice to meet you' attached to that, Sephiroth was still attempting to gather information. The way he saw it, he had all the cards. The soldier wasn't going to show all of them yet. He still had a bit of song and dance left to perform.
A small smile creeped onto his lips. "It is advisable to be cautious. The world is a dangerous place. full of people who would do you harm. Luckily for you, i'm not one of those people." What Sephiroth purposefully failed to mention was that this fact was subject to change depending on how their interaction went. So far, he had no desire to attack this girl. But again, this was subject to change. "You are correct, though. I'm not from around here. It seems to me, however, that the same could be said for you as well." The man in black crossed his arms and continued to examine Poppy with his otherworldly blue eyes.
"Everyone here is too... flamboyant for my taste." Sephiroth visibly grimaced. This place was like something out of a children's story. The environment, the colorful cast of characters, the wildlife... it was off-putting. Even the "bad guys" couldn't be taken seriously. Poppy was the first person he came across that didn't look like something a book of fairly tails puked out. At last, Sephiroth got to the point. "i'm looking for somebody. Someone else who isn't from here. He's a tall man dressed in black with blond hair. Carries a big sword. Have you seen him?"

"I've thought of a wonderful present for you..." @poppy
Sephiroth sat upon the highest branch of one of the surrounding trees, shrouded by the foliage and the shadows of the night.. He was watching a young woman below him, who had applied a potion to an injury she had received. The shadowy man had been trying to decipher the woman, first of all wondering where she got that cut. Was it an accident? A battle wound? If so, who-- or what-- was she fighting? Then, the most important question of all, had she seen Cloud? The warrior could feel the man's presence, but had no luck tracking him down. It seemed he would have to resort to tracking the old fashioned way. He just had to guess the reception he would receive. At any rate, she was not a threat. Safe to approach from the front, then. Sephiroth shifted his body weight, allowing himself to fall from the high branch. He held his arms out to the sides, gliding ever so gently downwards to the ground.
He landed in front of Poppy a few feet away from her, turning in dramatic fashion to face the recovering woman. He certainly knew how to make an entrance. He would give the woman a moment to process his sudden appearance, his azure gaze fixed directly on her. At last, after what seemed like an eternity, he spoke. "Good evening." His voice was like velvet, with no hint of hostility, malice, or even really any formality. His eyes looked downwards to her hand, where her injury was healing. "A sizable cut. Not something one could get by an accident. Run into trouble?" Sephiroth knew full well that a cut like that could very well be the product of an accident. This was more of a gamble on his part. The cut didn't look self-inflicted, nor did it appear to be the product of an animal or anything like that. Sephiroth had seen his share of battle injuries in his time. While he didn't know for sure, he suspected this was the case.
Sephiroth wasn't very interested in the "how," though. It was more the "who" he was interested in. Perhaps it was just his mind playing tricks on him, but he had to be sure that this stranger didn't encounter Cloud. If he could get that confirmation, his mind would be at ease. As the man in black awaited Poppy's response, his gaze shifted back up to her face, his own expression giving no hint as to what was going on in his head.
OOC; Sephiroth is here!
